This course prepare for a career as a make-up artist in television, fashion, make-up consultancy or self employment. Students will study areas including body art design, providing eyelash and eyebrow treatments, client care and salon health and safety, apply make-up and instruct others on make-up application, the art of photographic make-up, colouring and lightening hair, the art of dressing and styling hair. It includes functional skills qualification. After successful completion of the course they may progress to VTCT level 3 diploma in theatrical special effects and media hair and make-up or alternatively a dedicated hairdressing course.
Students must have two GCSEs at grade D or above, including Maths or English or equivalent Level 1 qualifications. They will need to purchase salon wear, equipment and textbooks and pay a fee towards the cost of consumables.
