This course is designed for those who wish to learn hairdressing and enjoy meeting people, this is a practical-based programme and they will also learn about the sciences related to the different aspects of hairdressing. Working with clients in a realistic salon environment, they will gain the necessary skills to develop their study further, or to begin their career. There are eight mandatory units which include: health and safety, effective communication skills, advice and consultation with clients, shampooing and conditioning of hair, hair colouring, styles and finish, setting and dressing hair and basic hair cutting techniques. There are also optional units which include: reception duties, promotion of products to clients, effectiveness at work, plaiting and twisting hair, perming and neutralising hair and hair extensions.
Students should be aged between 16 to 18 years and they should have a grade D or functional skills Level 1 in English or Maths, or preferably a Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing or equivalent 4 GCSE’s at grade D.
