'I knew what I wanted to study, but finding the right course was proving difficult. Most universities seem to have pretty much the same courses with the same subjects – none of which really interested me. I went on some open days and never really found anywhere that comfortable. I was recommended Newport by a television producer, as it had a great art, design and media department, with varied interesting courses.

I went for an open day to Newport and instantly felt at home. I'm from south London and wanted to move somewhere a bit different. The pleasant village campus is a lovely place to be, but not very far from Newport city, for shopping and going out. The new campus by the river looks like it's going to be one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. After an interview, I was pleased to be accepted onto my course.

From the day I arrived, I've felt at home and really enjoyed myself – as well as making a lot of new friends and learning a lot. Not just about my course, but general organisation, cooking and a few drinking games. My first year was probably my favourite, as it really is a great time to try new things and let your hair down. Newport made this exceptional, with the students' union putting on some great events, allowing me to see The Wurzels, Radio 1's Jo Whiley, Electric Six and Scouting For Girls. It's a really nice campus to live on too, with lots of new friends close by.

In my second year, I moved to a house with friends I'd met during my first year. This was made easy by Newport's helpful staff and by the great range of accommodation available outside of the campuses. There's something for everybody here.'
