Ulster is a large, modern university established on four campuses across Northern Ireland. In broad terms, our postgraduate programmes can be divided into two main types: those which focus on deepening the knowledge and skills acquired in a given subject at undergraduate level; and those which focus on the acquisition of knowledge and skills required for professional development in a given employment sector, be it for purposes of entry to a career or career advancement. But no matter what the focus of the programme, the demands and challenges are firmly at the postgraduate level.
As a teaching institution we have an enviably high reputation for quality. We have six faculties – Arts, Art, Design & Built Environment, Business and Management, Computing & Engineering, Life and Health Sciences and Social Sciences – and seventeen Research Institutes. As well as this we offer entrepreneurship training and support through specialised units.

Facilities
Each campus has its own Learning Resource Centre which combines library and IT services. Our website is the gateway to online databases, subject guides and other electronic services, including the library catalogue and over 10,000 full-text electronic journals. Students receive support and education from our subject librarians who will have a specialized knowledge of information sources in their subject.
We have a University-wide IT helpdesk service, along with student support teams located in our Learning Resource Centres. Our computers have a Common Desktop Environment (CDE) hosting approved software. Additional subject-specific software complements It is a competitive world and further study is an increasingly vital part of professional and career development. Taught Courses
Our aim is to provide a demand-led suite of programmes reflecting the needs and aspirations of our students and the requirements of employers and professional bodies. Towards this end we operate a rigorous system of initial programme of approval and periodic person based review, with the aim of the latter being to ensure the continued currency and relevance of our programmes. Research Programmes
Our vision for Research and Innovation is to be a university that ‘makes a significant contribution to knowledge and to society and which promotes excellence by training and mentoring future generations of researchers and innovators’. The university’s academic and research staff work on topics as diverse as ‘Functional Genomics’; ‘Conflict and Identity in Modern Irish Literature’; ’ Medical Knowledge and Popular Culture in the 19th/20th Centuries’; ‘Construction and Deconstruction of Space in The Production of Textiles’; ‘Information Engineering’ ‘The European Social Model’ or ‘Search Algorithms for DNA Higher Order Architectures’.
