Six of the most innovative art and design colleges make up the University's creative community: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Art. It is Europe's largest university for art, design, fashion, communication and the performing arts. University of the Arts London was voted Best Modern University by Sunday Times University Guide and The Daily Telegraph calls it "the hippest place to learn your trade". The last published RAE results are from 2001, at which point the University demonstrated significant success. With results published by subject area, and based on a seven point scale 1 (lowest), 2, 3b, 3a, 4, 5 and 5*, the University achieved a 5 rating. In 2006-07, this rating will equate to a QR grant of £8.6 million.

Facilities
The University's closely-knit college structure enables students and staff to interact and collaborate on a personal level, while having access to all the benefits of a larger university community. University of the Arts London offers a diverse range of courses across art, design, communication, fashion and performance.

Research Programmes
University of the Arts London is a world leading, outward facing research institution working with partners in academe, business, museums, galleries and the community at the forefront of creative and cultural research. Arts London represents the single largest grouping of research active staff in the arts and design in London and the United Kingdom. Whilst much of its work could be characterised as practice based within the art and design specialisms, the range of research activity and methodologies in the University reaches out into many aspects of the research landscape in the sciences, social science, and other related fields within in the wider arts and humanities community. The University’s research is located in all of its six leading Arts and Design colleges across London and within its network of eleven research centres and units focussed on particular specialist fields and cross cutting themes involving the full scope of arts and design disciplines and debates. Arts London’s research centres and units bring together groups of staff in common fields of enquiry, sometimes in small and highly specialised niche fields through to major large scale research centres encompassing whole disciplines or interdisciplinary work on a quite different scale.

Research degrees at Arts London, whilst centrally coordinated, draw on an unparalleled network of taught postgraduate programmes and PhD research groupings located in the colleges and research centres.
