The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s leading research Universities with a history dating back more than 120 years and a global reputation for academic excellence. With more than 14,000 students from over 140 countries, including nearly 3500 international students from around the world, the University of Surrey is a vibrant place to live and study. The pleasant, leafy, modern campus is set among gardens and a picturesque lake, all just a short walk from the centre of Guildford and 40 minutes by train from central London. With Heathrow and Gatwick airports are also close by, Surrey offers a world-class learning environment in an unrivalled location.

Since becoming a University in 1966 Surrey has focused on providing a ‘complete education’ – combining personal development, academic learning and real world application into an unbeatable blend of skills, knowledge and professional experience. As a result, University of Surrey graduates are the most employable of any university in the UK. No other University in the UK is able to match our consistently outstanding performance in the league tables.

In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, 88 per cent of Surrey's research activity was rated either 'world class' or 'internationally with four areas of research activity in the top 10 and a total of nine areas ranked in the top 20 including Economics, Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, Sociology, Applied Maths, European Studies, Drama Dance and Performing Arts and Music.

95 per cent of the School of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences research was awarded top ratings, the highest of any UK University, and 70 per cent of Surrey's Electronic Engineering research was rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent' also boasting the highest number of submitted researchers in this area of any UK University.

Surrey’s undergraduate programmes are also highly rated, with The Times Good University Guide 2012 ranking nine of its subject areas in the top ten, and 15 in the top 20. Ranked number 1 for Tourism and Hospitality in both The Times and The Guardian University Guide 2012, number 3 for Electronic Engineering (The Guardian), number 2 for Food Science, and number 3 for Sociology (The Times), “Surrey has been one of the recent success stories of the university world,” said The Times.
