Founded in 1967, on a spectacular campus in the heart of central Scotland, the University of Stirling has much to offer students of all backgrounds and interests. With strong foundations in teaching and research, postgraduate students choose from a wide range of taught masters programmes and research degrees.
Central features of our 360 acre campus are Airthrey Castle and Airthrey Loch. Many of the University buildings are situated around a central complex which includes shops, cafes, bars, library, Arts Centre and an impressive array of first class sports facilities.
Facilities
As well as being one of the most outstanding campus settings in Europe, the University of Stirling also offers a broad range of facilities. Modern lecture theatres, teaching rooms and laboratory space are complemented by our University library, which is soon to undergo a multi-million pound development and refurbishment.
Our students benefit from a range of other facilities. MacRobert is a popular venue which offers a cinema, theatre and performance space as well as a café/bar. The Robbins centre is the home of SUSA, Stirling University Students’ Association, and is well-known for its bars and nightclub. A small shopping precinct is located at the centre of campus and includes a supermarket, bank, book shop, pharmacy, travel agent and post office.
The University hosts some of the finest sports facilities, these include two national centres – the National Swimming Academy and the Gannochy National Tennis Centre, which has been recently expanded. Other facilities include a golf course and golf academy, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, two artificial pitches for football, hockey and rugby, a yoga and dance studio and associated areas for all the major indoor and outdoor sports. The loch is used for sailing, windsurfing and canoeing and many people also take advantage of the local hillwalking and other outdoor activities.
