The University of Reading is consistently one of the most popular higher education choices in the UK. Our tradition of academic excellence dates back to the late nineteenth century and our magnificent setting is one of the University’s greatest attractions. Many of our academic staff members are leading authorities in their fields, engaged in international research. We continue to expand and transform our estate through a multi-million pound investment programme. Our aim is to create twenty-first century facilities in our naturally beautiful landscape while preserving the University’s heritage.
Facilities
The University offers:
- cutting-edge teaching and learning facilities, including 24-hour IT resources and a library containing over a million items
- extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including pitches, courts, playing fields and a fullyequipped
sports centre
- a wide choice of catered and self-catered student accommodation.
At the hub of Whiteknights is the very popular Reading University Students’ Union. A hive of activity, it provides easy access to services, shopping and a ready-made social life. Its state-of-the-art award-winning entertainment venue, 3Sixty, is a prime example of our ongoing investment in first-class facilities.
RUSU runs clubs and societies to suit all interests and provides important welfare
services to students. RUSU also runs a purpose-built nursery for children aged 3 months to 5 years.
Taught Courses
The University offers a wide range of taught courses including Masters Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates as well as Continuing Professional Development Courses. The majority of the courses are available on a one-year full-time basis or up to five-years part-time. There are also a number of programmes available via a distance learning route.
Entry requirements for taught courses vary but applicants are normally expected to have a good undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject. Professional experience may also be taken into account.

Interested students should see the website to find out more information about the particular areas of research that departmental staff specialise in. If interested in studying for a PhD or MPhil it is best to contact the relevant department in the first instance.
