University Of Huddersfield Overview
The University of Huddersfield was founded in 1841 and has been established as a university since 1992. Excellent employment prospects and superb student accommodation, coupled with comparatively low living costs, attract students from all over the UK, the European Union and more than 80 countries worldwide. More than 1,000 of the university’s 16,000 students are from outside of the UK.
Huddersfield is located in the county of West Yorkshire, between Manchester and Leeds. It has a population of approximately 115,000. The town has a strong reputation as a friendly, close-knit community where students can enjoy life and be successful in their studies. The campus is next to the town’s main shopping area and combines modern and 19th-century buildings. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal flows through the campus.
What's on offer
Huddersfield is well known for high quality teaching in areas such as electronic engineering, social work, music and IT. There are seven schools of study: Applied Sciences, Engineering Technology and Computing; Design Technology; Education and Professional Development; Huddersfield University Business School; Human and Health Sciences; and Music and Humanities.
Many courses include a work placement year in industry or commerce; such courses are known as sandwich courses. Huddersfield is among the top five providers of sandwich courses in the UK. A period of paid work experience can give students a significant advantage in the job market after graduation.
Students will find fully equipped libraries, laboratories, computer and engineering workshops, design studios, performance spaces and a range of study facilities. The university provides help with work placements, a personal tutor system and all the support students need to make the most of their studies.
Student Support Advisers offer welfare support to those who may have concerns or problems during their period of study at Huddersfield. Specialist assistance is available for international students.
There is a health service available for all students. There are three doctors, a team of nurses, a physiotherapist and reception staff. The Health Centre is on campus; students living within three miles (4.8 kilometres) may register.
