The University invested £34 million in research last year and the value of new grant awards rose by 43 per cent. An impressive 99 per cent of subject areas taught at postgraduate level received the top grades of 4, 5 or 5* for research in the RAE (2001) and we are in the top-15 UK universities for receipt of research awards from the Arts and Humanities and Economic and Social Research Councils.

Exeter is leading a groundbreaking £14 million research partnership of South West universities, including Bristol and Bath, to boost research areas in economic importance to the region, through the creation of 130 PhD studentships, supported by 20 new Research Fellows and the establishment of a South West Postgraduate Training Network. But it is not only postgraduate research students who benefit from our research strengths, master’s students are taught by academic staff who are often at the cutting-edge of their field. We offer over 150 postgraduate taught courses across science, engineering and technology, social science, business, law, arts and humanities.
