On the fun side, the students' union has benefited from a £4 million refurbishment of its already award-winning nightclub and other facilities. The campus - described by the Virgin Alternative Guide to UK Universities as 'the friendliest in Scotland' - is a community within a community.
Every aspect of student life - accommodation, lectures, library, students' union, sports centre - is on one site. Yet all this is 5 minutes walk from the attractions of the city centre, and even closer to the cultural quarter (Rep Theatre, Contemporary Arts Centre, cafes, restaurants, gift shops and galleries) that has grown up around the university.
