Derby's a modern university which has recently invested over £55m in new facilities, including a £21m new arts, design and technology facility and a £0.5m Students' Union bar, designed by our own students. Derby is a friendly place to study and live, the atmosphere is relaxed and down-to-earth and the staff are always willing to help.
Derby is close to the M1, Nottingham East Midlands and Birmingham International airports, and many major cities are only one to two hours away by road or rail – including London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds. Our campus in the spa town of Buxton is less than an hour’s drive from Manchester International Airport or an hour from central Manchester by rail.
What's on Offer
Derby has a wide range of courses offered at all levels through its four academic faculties:
- Arts, Design and Technology
- Education, Health and Sciences
- Business, Computing and Law
- University of Derby Buxton
The University has recently developed a range of its programmes to be delivered entirely online, so that you can study where and when it suits you.
Ninety-one percent of Derby students are either in employment or further study within six months of graduating.
The University's learning centre provides library and information technology facilities, and contains around 300 workstations. From these, you can use the internet and a range of computer based and other resources specially designed to support studies, including video and audio-visual material. The learning centre has 1,100 study places and you can print, copy and prepare assignments for submission and even video yourself to practice for oral presentations.
There are computing facilities at all sites in open access computer labs and the learning centres. Specialist computing resources are available for individual courses, for example for Graphic Design and Computing students. The University campus is fully networked and internet links are available in rooms in the halls of residence. Every student has his or her own email account and free access to the internet.
