This rise and the associated media attention, has led in turn, to the Government setting targets for reducing the number of deaths arising from these infections. To achieve these targets, it is necessary for all staff working in NHS Hospital Trusts, Primary Care Trusts, nursing and social care to be trained to understand these infections, what they are, how they can infect patients and, importantly, the measures that can be used to control cross infection. This course is intended to provide this training for staff working in these areas. This course is organised into three modules. The first two modules will enable you, the learner, to gain an understanding of the different agents that can cause infection and how they grow and mutate; how infection is spread and the measures that can be taken to prevent this from taking place. In the third module MRSA is examined in more depth and you will understand how it has become a hospital ‘super bug’ resistant to antibiotics. Also in the third module you will learn what your role and legal obligations are in reducing its spread. You don’t need any previous qualifications to take this course.
