Course Venue: Nelson And Colne College , Lancashire, BB9 7YT
Awarding body: University of Salford
Course Description
The programme aims to address the new strategies, priorities and issues facing local government, covering a range of themes which both address the more traditional aspects of management and the demands of a changing environment in a new and more integrated manner. Programme modules will therefore focus on: Strategy, Issues and Applications, in response to the local authorities' skills and learning needs. Those students who complete the Foundation Degree programme with a performance greater than a specified minimum will be allowed to progress to a specially developed programme that leads to an honours degree in Community Governance. This top-up programme will require two further years part-time study. Specialist groups are currently exploring the possible links to professional qualifications from the consortium.
Assessment method
Whilst students should be able to undertake as much study as is realistically possible at or near to their place of work, essential elements will include delivery of modules at the University and local college supported by the use of Internet technology. Some time should be spent working with students from other employers in an academic environment and the intention is that each year three 2 day events at the University will supplement the twilight sessions to be held at the individual colleges.
Entry Requirements
The standard entry requirement is a pass in one subject at A2 level or Vocational A level, or one GCE 'A' level, or Advanced GNVQ equivalent. Wide use will be made of the University's Accreditation of Prior Learning procedures for those applicants who do not possess the standard entry qualifications. All applicants will be offered an initial interview, which, where appropriate, will form the first stage in the APL/APEL process for entry and (in later cohorts) credit. This interview will provide the opportunity to gather the initial information for the Learning Contract that each student will agree with their employer and the University/College; this will include identification of special learning needs and the resources required to meet these needs. Admission to this course is initially through your Training Officer who will be able to advice you on the local arrangements for enrolment.
