Course Description
COURSE CONTENT:The course is designed to equip students to follow a career in e.g. practical farming and allied industries such as agribusiness, engineering, computer support, advisory work and education and enable them to progress to Hons Degree Level if desired. Graduates from the Foundation Degree will be entitled to display the letters FdSc after their name and will be qualified to follow a career in practical farming and allied industries such as agribusiness, engineering and renewable energy, computer support, advisory work and education. There isalso a rapidly increasing demand for suitably qualified people in the field of rural sustainability from rural agencies and development organisations throughout the EU. Additionally, graduates may wish to complete an honours degree. This Foundation Degree is linked to an honours programme in Queens University of Belfast and students have that option on completion of their studies at South West College.In Year 1 students will study;- Agriculture and the Environment- Renewable Energy Applications- Sustainable Farming Systems- Business and Management 1.In Year 2 students will study;- Rural Diversification- Engineering Principles- Waste Management- Business and Management 2.Students will also study;- Land Based Business- Environmental Entrepreneurship- Options will be available in Wind Turbine Technology- Industrial Placement (28 weeks).
