Course Description
This new course draws on expertise from the School of Architecture and the School of Art, Design and Media. It will provide students with the detailed design ability and spatial awareness in interior architecture that is required to practice interior design. The first year will introduce spatial design in relation to the cultural context of the city and contemporary art media. Trips to European cities and London Galleries will form the basis of initial design projects. Through the second year, students will concentrate on the detailed manipulation of form in light, on scale and colour, on materiality and abstraction. You will be introduced to specialist areas of design such as furniture and 3D design, interior finishes, wood and plaster carving, and to spatial design using computer aided design. Throughout the course you will have lecture courses in architectural history, art history, cultural theory, materials, environmental design, representation (model making, drawing and computer aided design) building construction and professional studies. You should obtain work placements during the course and develop the knowledge and skills for an exciting job after graduation.
