Course Description
This two year college-based course includes a six week work placement and is suitable for those who wish to progress to management level within the aquaculture or sport fisheries industry. The first year of this course is covered by the HNC in Fish Farm Production Management, and those who successfully complete this are encouraged to progress to the second HND year to study more advanced topics:• Water ecology and water catchment management• River and still water sport fishery management• Alternative aquaculture enterprises (shellfish and cyprinids) • Farm planning (application of IT)• Management (supervision of staff and budgets).

Entry Requirements
A credit pass in SVQ 2 Aquaculture, Fisheries Management or National Certificate Fisheries StudiesorFive Standard Grades, at a minimum of grade 3, including Maths and English AND a minimum of two Highers or one A Level pass. A science subject, particularly Biology, is an advantage. A genuine desire to work within the aquaculture or fisheries industry is essential. If you are short of the above academic entry requirements but have relevant experience, this will be taken into account in a selection interview.
Venue Description
Notes: The college is situated approximately 8 miles from Dumfries on the A701 Moffat Road. It is located within a 262 Hectare estate comprising of commercial farm, fish farm and deer farming enterprise. The college offers a wide range of courses, can cater for up to 90 residents and provides sport fishing, multigym, snooker and many other recreation and leisure facilities.
