Course Description
The course requires the full time study of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and the history of art and human anatomy (which is studied in the first year only).The course adds the teaching of art history and art theory to a predominantly studio-based approach in order to make the course practical and contemporary.The study of Fine Art involves reading, looking, writing and making. Year 1: Students rotate through subject specialisms of painting, printmaking, electronic imaging and sculpture. They attend practical classes in drawing, photography, human anatomy and art history.At the end of the 2nd term students are allocated an area of subject specialism. Years 2 & 3: Area of supporting study established for area specialism. History of Art continues. Extended essay to be produced. Throughout the course great emphasis is placed on the student's ability to relate art history and contemporary practice to their own studies and production. Students are taught by practising artists and historians and are expected to make museum and art gallery visits regularly and work in the studios daily.

Assessment method
Year 1: One written paper in Art history; three coursework essays; satisfactory practical record in all other courses; Year 2: Satisfactory record in all courses; Year 3: Final University Examinations; One extended essay; one written paper; exhibition of practical work

Entry exam, review of UCAS form, review of portfolio, drawing examination, performance at interview.
