Course Description
3 yr BA degree which, if successful, leads onto 2 yr BArch course and exemption from ARB and RIBA exams. The BA is intended to be as much an academic degree as a professional one, to go on to areas of research in another degree, or the BArch. Design, technology and humanities are the principle courses. After the BA you will normally undertake a year of professional experience to prepare for entry to the BArch, which extends and matures your design skills and architectural understanding. You will complete a dissertation and study advanced aspects of history, technology and professional practice.

Assessment method
In each year of the BA, Design and its associated exercises carry about 60% of the mark, assessed by course work alone. The other subjects, making up the other 40%, are assessed half by course work and half by written examination. Year 2 contributes 25% to your final award, and Year 3 the other 75%. On the BArch programme, Design and its associated course work in Technology make up about 75% of marks, assessed wholly through course work. The dissertation and an examination in Management make up the balance. Years 1 and 2 contribute 25% and 75% respectively to your final award.
