Course Description
What makes Lake District buildings distinctive? We will explore the historical evolution of vernacular styles for houses, farms and industrial buildings, giving special attention to construction methods. We shall also turn detective and seek clues to help date buildings. As we explore the relationships of the buildings to their surroundings, we will learn about the geology of the area and its socio-economic background. Please note that this popular course has recently been updated, in order to offer a more in-depth study of Lake District buildings.
