This two-year, part-time course is intended for practising teachers, tutors and instructors and/or trainers of adults. The qualification you gain will enable you to teach students aged 16-19 and adults in a range of settings such as further education colleges, sixth form colleges, adult and community providers, work-based learning and prisons amongst others. The course will be held at the Ilford campus on one evening per week, term-time only.
You will need to have either 1 or 2 of the following listed below: - PTLLS Qualification (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) (OR) - Teaching experience (at least 1-2 years to groups or classes) Trainees will be expected to provide their own teaching placement, a suitable mentor and current CRB. You will also need: ICT skills at level two (or be willing to develop them), clear and effective communication skills in spoken and written English, appropriate personal and intellectual qualities to be a teacher in PCET. This course has the expectation that by the end of the programme, you will have level two skills in literacy and numeracy. At the beginning of the course, your skills in literacy and numeracy will be assessed. Should there be any learning needs identified, these will be discussed with your tutor, with a view to addressing these needs. You will require a CRB check as you will be working with children and vulnerable young people. You will also be expected to register with the Institute for Learning. *If you hold non-UK qualifications, you will need to verify their equivalence through UK NARIC, tel: 01242 260 010, or through Vocational Equivalency, tel: 01242 260 225. You will also need to supply written evidence of this information with your application.
