Founded in 1992, Trans-Atlantic College is the one of the most specialised distance learning colleges in the United Kingdom. The College was one of the first in the world to run practical and internationally based diploma courses in refugee management, homelessness, social housing and animal protection law. It also runs a diploma course in HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted disease prevention in association with the College of Venereal Disease Prevention, UK.

Trans-Atlantic College has expanded very rapidly since its inception, to provide one of the most comprehensive ranges of distance-learning courses available at any educational institution in the UK. The courses, which deal with some of the most pressing global issues, are available at certificate, advanced certificate, diploma and advanced diploma levels and cover areas such as asylum and refugee law, public health, medical and healthcare law, criminal law and criminology, human rights, law of protection of children, mental health management, environmental management, citizens advice, prevention and management of drug abuse and welfare fraud prevention and investigation, as well as more general courses such as business, IT and human resource management.

The courses on offer have been designed to be simple to follow - the College use specialist and proven texts (including self-assessment tests where appropriate) and tutors are always available to give help where needed. All of the tutors and assessors are qualified specialists, drawn from academia, industry and legal practice. Each student is assigned a personal tutor who can be contacted at any time for help, assistance or advice.
