Course Description
The course is based upon the key knowledge and understanding required within the training function. It aims to provide development opportunities and meet the needs of: New entrants to the training function who need to acquire a range of relevant theoretical and practical training skills; Staff transferred to training from a related area; Those aspiring to move into the training function; Those already employed in a training role who wish to acquire a professional qualification. Aspects of the course are focussed on practical training. You will have the opportunity to gain experience of training alongside other professionals with support from tutors. Successful students receive the University of Huddersfield Certificate in Training Practice and the CIPD Certificate in Training Practice and are eligible for Associate membership of CIPD. The course consists of three 20 credit modules at Foundation level: Organisation and Management of Training; Principles of Design and Delivery of Training; and Continuing Personal and Professional Development You will cover the following areas: Identification of Learning and Development Needs; Design and Development of Learning; Design of Learning Support Materials; Delivery of Training; Assessment Methods; Evaluation; Continuing Professional Development; Management of Learning and Development; and Counselling Skills for Trainers. It is posssible to utilise credit gained on this course towards gaining the Certificate in Education or Post Graduate Certificate in Education (if you are a graduate). Alternatively, you could attain the BA in Education and Training under specific circumstances or progress to other CIPD examinations.
Course Fees
The course consists of three 20 credit modules. The fee for 20 credits is £250 in 2006/07. A separate registration and membership fee is payable to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. You need to pay this at the start of the course via the CIPD website once you have enrolled on our course. There are various payment methods available, including the use of credit or debit cards at enrolment and payment by instalments. Some student fees are funded by employers, in which case we need a supporting letter at enrolment.

Assessment method
Modules are assessed through a range of methods including written assigments, projects, demonstration of training skills, portfolios and oral tests.
Entry Requirements
You will normally be 21 or over. We welcome and encourage applications from mature students if you do not possess the normal University entry requirements. You must have the necessary academic ability and will be expected to have good English language skills. A separate registration and membership fee, payable to the Institute of Personnel and Development will be paid at the start of the course.
