The course has 2 routes for the Masters award: by course: mainly practical work with a written piece 5–7000 words to be submitted at the beginning of the 2nd year; or by project: a combination of practical and written work, the written work comprising a maximum 20000 words;
In the first year there are 5 modules which include: traditional painting, (Persian and Indian miniature painting, methods and material, and techniques of icon painting); architectural crafts, (field study visit, wood marquetry, stained glass and mosaics); ceramic craft, letter forms and Islimi (ceramic tiles, ceramic plates, islimi and lettering); traditional and Islamic geometry and contextual studies; during the second year, the student will be working on a specialised project with only geometry classes continuing over the second year.
A relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification; if a candidate does not have a degree the entry requirement would be as follows: based on their portfolio of work produced: if it is outstanding, an offer of a place would be awarded; the candidate would be asked to work on a project throughout the year before being accepted on the programme; the candidate would be asked to complete at least 1 full time year of the course as a diploma student at the school; minimum age for graduate entry is 21; for non-graduate entry 25.
