Course Description
The School offers a unique opportunity to study both the theory and practice of Traditional Arts at higher educational level. As well as PhD degrees the following 3 courses are validated by the University of Wales, UK: (1) MA by Course (practical) (2) MA by Project (half practical/half theory) (3) MPhil (degree by thesis). The study of the theory and meaning of the traditional arts is a special feature of the School. The course work is supported by first hand experience of the traditional arts through working sessions with traditional artists and craftsmen. Students are encouraged to pursue their own particular skills at the same time as attending classes in geometry, methods and materials, clay craft, arabesque and others

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have obtained either a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification, or candidates without an undergraduate degree would need to follow the criteria below: a) It would be based on their portfolio of work produced. If it is outstanding, even if the candidate did not possess an undergraduate degree, an offer of a place would be awarded. b) The candidate would be asked to work on a project throughout the year before being accepted on the programme. c) The candidate would be asked to complete at least one full time year of the course as a diploma student at the school. Further considerations taken into account for candidates without an undergraduate degree during admissions procedure are: (a) The potential contribution a candidate might make to the scheme of study and to the subject. (b) Demonstration, through the presentation of the application form of an understanding of the nature of the subject and the reasons for wishing to undertake the course and the submission of a portfolio of work examples. (c) Career aspirations: some indication that the candidate has clearly defined reasons for wishing to take the course e.g. pedagogic research or commercial. (d) Work from previous courses, or self-motivated study. (e) Evidence of broader interests. (f)References: value is attached to the references. Referees are contacted at this stage if further clarification is required. (g) Overseas candidates: proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. The school reserves the right to require the student to take a remedial English course (International English Language Testing System) examination if it is deemed necessary.
