This course embraces new media art forms including: digital filmmaking; photography; sound design; sonic art; performance; web art; interactive media; following a structured introduction to key media art concepts and technologies, students are encouraged to experiment and develop a self-motivated personal programme of study; the course develops visual awareness and literacy, critical and conceptual abilities through studio practice, which is underpinned by media art theory; the course offers opportunities to be involved in an active exhibition culture and supports a diversity of work including still imaging, installation, interactive and sonic art, artist film and video, narrative and documentary video; the programme benefits from contact with visiting specialists through a series of master classes and seminars by contemporary artists and practitioners.
Level 2: Introduction to digital filmmaking, sound acquisition and digital editing; media history and theoretical studies; self-motivated projects; critical debate and exhibition. Level 3: project-based advanced digital filmmaking, advanced video, web and sound art; technical master classes; history and theoretical studies; enterprise management; personal programme of study and research; cultural experience: study visit. Level 4: personal programme of study; critical debate and advanced technical practice; dissertation; degree show exposition.
