Students can specialise in theatre, applied theatre, performance practice or performance writing in levels 2 and 3 and can choose to be awarded a degree whose title reflects individual specialism; throughout this programme students explore a range of ideas and practice within theatre, such as directing, devising, applied practice, theatre production and performance theory; learners study the contemporary significance of theatre making as an art form by looking at specific practices and practitioners; students also explore new ways of thinking about theatre, performance and audience, investigating the place and meaning of theatre within a wider context.
Level 1: From acting to performance; an introduction to design for performance; an introduction to performance writing; ensemble theatre practice; theatre in context. Level 2: The performance of the self; political performance; artist as witness; theatre in a social context; site specific theatre. Level 3: Contemporary theatre practice; independent practice as research; dissertation.
