The Institute offers a wide range of high quality courses to over 6,000 adults each year. Whether you are in search of new skills for work, a new direction or simply wish to learn for pleasure, we have something to offer you. We have a proven track record of delivering excellent results, flexibility and a friendly supportive environment.

The Institute has been providing adult education across north London for over 100 years and is the biggest single provider of adult education in the borough of Barnet. We receive government funding for some areas of our work through the Learning and Skills Council. In the past we have also attracted grants from sources such as the European Social Fund. Our work is regularly inspected by, among others, the Adult Learning Inspectorate and the British Council. We are an associate college of Middlesex University, and have links with many other education providers and community groups.

What's on offer

The Institute offers over 500 courses in a wide variety of subject areas: Art, Design and Creative, Business, Computing and ICT, Cookery, Leisure and Lifestyle, English, Maths and ESOL, Health, Fitness and Personal Development, Media and Performing Arts, Modern Foreign Languages, Science and Cultural Studies, and Teacher Training.

 
In addition we offer training services to employers and programmes for students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Courses at many levels, daytime, evening and weekend
  • Accredited courses in many subjects: L2 in Business, Art and Design, and Fashion and Textiles, NVQ in Instructing Fitness and Excercise, Diploma in Complementary Therapies, Cookery School, GCSE and A-level examinations in foreign languages, RYA shore-based qualifications, City and Guilds Photography, Foundation Art.
  • Literacy and numeracy courses, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
  • English language programmes for international students.
