Course Description
This programme is concerned with all aspects of the ancient city of Rome (roughly 800 BC to AD 600) and also with its legacy. It is a unique MA in that it includes two months guided study in Rome itself. All students take in their first two terms: a Research Methods module which covers key skills in an intensive series of workshops; a module entitled Approaches to Rome, which provides both an overview and a theoretical grounding in issues relevant to ancient Rome; and either Italian or Latin at a level appropriate to them. The specialist City of Rome module is taught in Rome in April and may. Students stay at the British School of Rome, and gain first hand experience of the city through an intensive programme of site and museum visits and seminars. In the third term students research a 20,000 word dissertation on a topic of their choice under the supervision of an expert in that area. The groundwork for this dissertation is often done in Rome.

Good Honours degree is required in an appropriate discipline: Classics, Ancient History, history, Religious Studies, etc.
