Thames Valley University (TVU) Student Accommodation
The University has new purpose-built halls of residence in Reading and is developing new student accommodation in Ealing, scheduled for completion in 2006.
The University Accommodation Service (UAS) helps students find suitable accommodation. As well as maintaining a register of properties, UAS also manages furnished flats and houses on behalf of landlords and then lets them to students. UAS ensures that all these properties are regularly monitored for quality and safety.
Accommodation
The University has accommodation offices on both the Ealing and the Reading campuses. Students studying at Ealing and Slough can contact the University Accommodation Office (UAS), based in Student Services at Ealing; and students at the Reading campus can contact the Accommodation Office based in Customer Services at Reading.
The accommodation service on both sites can help you find somewhere to live, whether in the halls of residence, in one of our student houses, family houses, a room at the YMCA hostel (Ealing only) or within the private rented sector.
Halls of residence
We have purpose-built halls of residence in Reading and at Brentford, near the Ealing campus, offering en-suite facilities in all study bedrooms, broadband internet facilities, communal living room and fully fitted kitchen, a laundry and 24 hour on-site security. The halls of residence are in easy walking distance from the campuses, the local amenities and transport facilities.
Accommodation in the private rented sector
The University produces a handbook "A Guide to Seeking Accommodation in the Private Rented Sector" that provides comprehensive information on types of accommodation, tenancy agreements, rent, bills, safety issues and tenants' rights and responsibilities. The accommodation offices provide lists of available rooms with private landlords and communication boards for students interested in sharing.
The University also maintains a register of properties which are carefully vetted before they are registered to ensure they comply with quality and safety standards.
Home stay or lodgings
Popular with international students, homestay offers a supportive environment in which to be introduced to British culture. Local families offering this accommodation are selected for their hospitality and their understanding of how those new to the UK feel when they first arrive.
All prospective students accepting an offer of a place at TVU will receive accommodation information with their Joining Instructions.
If you have any special requirements, you should write directly to the Accommodation Service at Ealing or Reading as soon as possible after you accept an offer of a place.
