This course will explore the use of traditional embroidery stitches in contemporary ways, both by hand and by machine. Participants will look at a variety of techniques to prepare the background fabric, including dyeing, printing, felting, weaving, patchwork, collage and batik. They will have opportunity to explore some modern techniques, materials and equipment that can be used in contemporary embroidery. By keeping samples and notes, they will build up a useful resource for future reference. They will work towards producing a finished item of their choosing, perhaps something for the home or a fashion accessory. Anyone wishing to continue after completing the first, can go on to develop their skills and knowledge base with a different set of stitches and techniques in the second half of the year.
There are no formal entry requirements.
