Course Description
This programme provides a thorough training in the practice of systemic family therapy. The course is accredited by the Association for Family Therapy and successful students will be able to register as systemic psychotherapists with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Training is to a fully professional standard in the theory and practice of systemic family therapy. This is a rapidly evolving field in which research and theoretical advances are being continuously translated into practice techniques. A competent practitioner therefore needs a sound understanding of fundamental principles, through which new advances can be evaluated and incorporated, a sound basis of professional practice, through which new techniques can be safely and productively introduced, and competence in undertaking research and evaluating reports of research findings. Students take part in a weekly-supervised family therapy clinic and work both as members of the clinical team and as therapists. They bring material from their work setting for discussion and supervision.
