Course Description
This programme has been designed to meet industry demand for engineers who can apply sustainability principles and techniques to materials and process engineering. It is suitable for science and engineering graduates and focuses on training in advanced materials engineering and process intensification skills for a sustainable future. Diploma students take modules to the value of 120 credits. Modules typically include: renewable energy hydrogen and fuel cell technology; sustainable industry; fuel cell systems; process intensification; sustainable design and manufacture; modelling for materials sustainability and processing; nanomaterials; clean technology applications; sustainable processing energy and materials technology; renewable energy biomass and waste technology; methodology and planning research. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, student-directed learning, laboratory work, extended course work and tutorials.

Fees for 2009-10 are £4,195 full-time.

Assessment method
Assessment is by written examination, course work and, for MSc students, a dissertation based on a project conducted in association with industry or one of the research groups.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of a second-class Honours degree, or equivalent, in any pure or applied science subject or engineering. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), 577 (paper-based) or equivalent.
