This course is designed as an introduction for students who wish to develop their competence and skills in the physical surveying of existing buildings but may also be of benefit to students who have a basic knowledge of this type of work and wish to further improve their presentation skills. A course guide and an excellent textbook will guide you through the twelve lessons. Students are also required to research information for their Student Information Portfolio (SIP) as explained within the welcome pack. Many of the questions within this course should be answered using the SIP. Lesson Content: 1 - Types of Surveys, 2 - The Building, 3 - Substructure, 4 - External Walls, 5 - Floors etc., 6 - Roofs etc., 7 - Woodwork, 8 - Internal Finishings, 9 - Building Services, 10 - External Works, 11 - Fire Damage, 12 - Typical Building Survey Report. On completion of the course the student should be able to appreciate the need to inspect existing buildings and become aware of the physical state of the building structure, finishings and services. The student should also become aware of the main causes of problems within buildings and should be able to convey this information into a report. The course may be commenced at any time and should be completed within 3 months (i.e. 80 hours of study) depending on the students previous knowledge of the subject. A Premier School of Building Diploma will be awarded on successful completion of the course.
