Delivery of the course is through a modular approach with a full foundation degree being worth a total of 240 CAT points; the qualification provides a route for progression for those wishing to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The course aims to build students skills; knowledge; and understanding to develop their professional role in supporting the learning of children and young adults; during the course students work with other education professionals to jointly plan; train; and monitor and assess learning; the aim if for students to develop the skills of a competent practitioner able to promote effective learning and achievement, to motivate learners and to work in and lead professional teams.
A number of modules such as: equality and diversity in education; how people learn; how to support effectively different types of learner; specific modules on supporting the development of literacy and numeracy skills; a module on behaviour management; and a small research project linked to an aspect of the students� own practice in the 2nd year.
