This is a science-based vocationally oriented programme including detailed study in selected areas of both the biological and social sciences; these subject areas include strength and conditioning with physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics and performance coaching; accompanying laboratory and practical components assist in the delivery, understanding and application of these areas; this programme provides an honours level experience for students progressing from strength conditioning and coaching related foundation degrees; the programme offers the opportunity to consolidate and build on the student�s previous experience by providing a modular programme that extends and develops the student and provides an opportunity to research an area of special interest.
Year 3 only: The Strength and Conditioning programme enables students to study the theoretical basis and practical application of strength and conditioning, but a salient feature of the programme focuses on preparing graduates for employment; therefore the programme seeks to contextualise the curriculum by embedding vocationally relevant material in appropriate modules; the �advanced strength and conditioning� module allows students to demonstrate technical proficiency across weightlifting, plyometrics, speed, agility, endurance and flexibility practice whilst learning to design, deliver and evaluate training programmes; students are encouraged to work towards accreditation to the UK Strength and Conditioning Association; other examples of practical/ vocational modules include: �Performance and technique analysis�, where students are encouraged to model performance through analysis of sports technique based on biomechanical principles; and �advanced applied sports physiology� which enables students to become equipped with the skills to conduct physiological analyses of sports performance; in addition, students have numerous opportunities to engage in the delivery of strength and conditioning and sport science support to athletes across the region.
