Course Description
In Year One, there are modules which enable you to develop and extend your skills in performance, design and making in a way that is relevant to Street Arts practice this is then applied to the originating and presenting of a piece of street arts work. Central to the practical modules is the critical and contextual studies module that is about understanding the philosophical, social, cultural and aesthetic questions related to the practice of Street Arts. The work-related element in year one is about working with an organisation in the community and gathering evidence for outreach work or community involvement in a street arts project. In Year Two, the practical modules focus on developing your specialist skills and using them in an interdisciplinary way. The underpinning module in year two is about gaining understanding and knowledge about the financial, business and legal aspects of Street Arts and developing self-promotional skills that will sustain you in employment in the industry. The work-related module will take the form of a placement or work-shadowing to research the process of producing and project managing a Street Arts event. The outcomes of the research module can be applied to your own Street Arts Practice which you will demonstrate within a self-defined role. The range of opportunities with Street Arts is wide and varied. There is the whole production side which includes the roles of producers, designers, business managers, production managers and marketing. There are opportunities for performers with a whole range of skills: dancers, musicians, circus performers, actors. A major aspect of Street Arts is working with communities and schools which requires animateurs, workshop leaders and practitioners who can teach different making and performing skills to others. There are also opportunities for stage management and event management. You may wish to progression on to the final year of a BA (Hons) degree in a related subject.
