Course Description
This programme is multi-disciplinary and builds on our existing strengths in health and sports studies, physiotherapy and podiatry. The course includes study of the underpinning disciplines in sports therapy, such as anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, together with psychology and sociology. You will develop the skills needed to be a competent sports therapist. The Society of Sports Therapists identify five areas of competence: Prevention of injury, Recognition and evaluation of injury Management, treatment and referral, Rehabilitation Education and counselling. Students who reach the required level of competence will be eligible to register with the Society of Sports Therapists. Study comprises:-Year 1: Research and Investigation in Health and Sports Exercise, Physiology Preparation for Practice, Musculoskeletal Systems, Principles of Training and Fitness I, Psychosocial Aspects of Sports. Year 2: Research Methods for Health and Sports Studies, Applied Anatomy and Physiology in Sports Therapy, Practice ,I Sports Rehabilitation, Principles of Training and Fitness II, Changing Behaviour in Sport Functional Anatomy. Year 3: Sports Therapy in Specialist Populations, Clinical Electrotherapy, Applied Anatomy and Physiology in Sports, Therapy Practice II, Dissertation and Two option modules.
