Entering the sport and exercise science programmes at this time means that students graduate just after the London olympic games in 2012; the increased media attention will raise the profile of sport and sport and exercise scientists who are becoming increasingly more important in achieving sporting excellence; in another sphere, there is continued spotlight on the benefits of sport and exercise for the well-being of all and reduction of obesity; both of these issues bode well for future employment prospects of sports science graduates; this programme has been endorsed by the British association for sport and exercise sciences (BASES).
The core discipline area: Physiology, psychology and biomechanics are the foundations of the degree course; at levels 2 and 3 students undertake specialist sports science and injury management modules; alongside these subject specific modules students also develop research skills that progress towards completion of a dissertation at level 3; in addition at all levels of study there is a personal and professional development strand which contains a work placement and opportunities to gain relevant vocational qualifications.
