We need to learn to speak to others directly in their own tongue to keep a strong position in the world today. The advantages to you personally of knowing a modern foreign language are enormous. You can offer it to an employer as an extra skill alongside your other qualifications, or you can use it for your own enjoyment and understanding of another culture. If you want to keep up your Spanish to a high level, especially the speaking and listening skills, you could include an AS level course in your programme. It goes well with any combination - from Maths and Science to Business for example. At A2 you will build on your knowledge to develop your Spanish listening, speaking, reading and writing to a higher level, improving essay writing and adding translation skills. You will further improve your knowledge of Spanish grammar and language structure to give you a better understanding of the language and culture of the Spanish speaking world. At AS there is a topic based approach including: - Youth Culture - Lifestyle, health and fitness - Travel, tourism, the environment and the Spanish-speaking world - Education and employment In additional to AS and A2 classes you will have 20-30 minutes oral practice per week with the Foreign Language Assistant. At A2 the study of Spanish through a topic based approach will continue. You will work on topics such as: - Customs, traditions and beliefs - National and international events - Literature and the arts You will also work on a major Spanish topic, which includes written research. You will have the opportunity to take part in a week's work experience in Spain. Every week we will have practice with a Foreign Language Assistant. They give weekly oral practice to all our languages students, bringing them the latest expressions and ideas and help with the oral exams.
