During the 1st year of the sound technology course, students learn recording and sound engineering techniques and practice live sound, the use of computers in music production and the basic building blocks of electronics; in year 2, they build on their audio engineering, recording and production skills, and start to experience live sound in a working venue; the final year of the course involves a major group project, working with students from other creative courses; students refine their production skills in recording engineering and learn about the acoustics of performance spaces.
Year 1: Covers sound engineering techniques and practice; the use of computers in music production; the basic building blocks of electronics. Year 2: Builds on audio engineering, recording and production skills; experience live sound, with the chance of experience in a working venue; learn about the sound business and be equipped to deal with contracts, copyright law and running a small business. Year 3: Major group project working with students from other courses; refine production skills in recording engineering and understand the acoustics of performance spaces; specialise in 1 of 4 areas: music production; computer-based music production and advanced sound synthesis; computer- based media production; electronics design for music.
