Year 1: The sociology of everyday life; transformations of the modern world; analysing social policy; social problems and social policy; studying the social world; introduction to quantitative methods; plus two course units from social sciences, management or psychology lists.
Year 2: Sociological analysis; state, society and welfare since 1800; research methods in the social sciences; research skills in sociology and social policy; gender and society; the body, culture and society; crime and health policy; education and society; work, employment and society; class structure and social inequality.
Year 3: Comparative sociology; dissertation; comparative social policy; 3 to 4 specialised units including: sociology of disability; sociology of youth; contemporary sexualities; sociology of gender in the mass media; fashion, style and dress; poverty, inequality and social security; crime, space and social control.
