Social pedagogy is a holistic professional activity integrating elements of care, education, therapeutic and creative activities in the work with individuals of all ages families and carers, acknowledging the importance of relationship and social interaction in promoting healthy development and life; accelerated progression to years 2 or 3 is open to applicants who have a minimum of 4 years working in Camphill Schools, associated Camphill communities, or any other organisation involved in the of provision of care and/or education or social therapy. Students on the course have the option of exiting at Certificate, Diploma, Ordinary or Honours Degree in social pedagogy.
The professional training in social pedagogy encompasses the following: A sound knowledge of the holistic understanding of the human being; an understanding of human life course development; an understanding of general social pedagogical principles, theories and approaches; an ever-expanding repertoire of practical social pedagogical attitudes, skills and methods; social and organisational skills to facilitate working in and building community; the ability to work within the professional, social-political and regulatory context of the field; the ability to work in partnership with parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals; the ability to develop trusting and positive relationships; the creative ability to develop new ideas for transformative action; personal and professional development.
