The programme give students a broad-based knowledge of the use of research methods in the social sciences, as well as core research training in social scientific philosophy and methodology within a contemporary sociology context; it develop understanding of the origins, history and development of science and technology studies as a discipline and its theoretical underpinnings; it equips students with the skills to go on to doctoral research or to pursue a career as a professional researcher.
Compulsory modules in: social science research skills; philosophy of the social sciences; data sources and collection in the social science; social science data analysis; science, technology and society; dissertation; 1 option modules from: history and philosophy of biology, part 1; history and philosophy of biology, part 2; philosophy of science; genomics in society.
