"As a student in Hong Kong, I was runner-up in the ‘Student Linguist of the Year 2000’ competition, run by the South China Morning Post. I then took a preparatory course, before coming to SOAS to study Linguistics.

It’s hard to describe life as an international student at SOAS, because I don’t feel foreign here. SOAS is cool. In the past year, I have made so many friends from all over the world, learning interesting things about their countries, and even managing a few words of their languages. You don't feel ‘different’ because of your nationality, gender, age, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation – the student body here is so diverse.

As a Linguistics student, SOAS is the right place for me as well. The library has a large number of precious books that you cannot find anywhere else in the UK. What’s more, the atmosphere in my department, compared with that I have experienced in other universities, is a lot friendlier.

Don’t think that SOAS is a small school. As a SOAS student, you have access to many of the facilities throughout the University of London, e.g. UCL library and ULU!"
