Research is concentrated on the fundamental science of wood and plant fibres; natural fibre reinforced composites; and the use of plant-derived materials as chemical feedstocks; particular attention is paid to environmental impacts; current research investigates: wood ultrastructure and decay mechanisms; chemical modification; preservation and flow; composite properties; chemical products from plants.
