Redbridge Institute - Community Learning and Skills provides over 800 courses for adults in the London Borough Redbridge. Over 6,000 students take a range of vocational qualifications as well as personal development courses and there are thriving family learning and neighbourhood learning programmes. Our main site, the Gearies Centre, is a five minute walk from Gants Hill station on the Central Line and is also well served by buses from Ilford town centre. Courses are reasonably priced, with concessions for those on benefits and those looking for work available on most courses.  Most subjects offer a choice of day or evening study.

Equality of opportunity is promoted within the curriculum, with many courses reflecting the diverse cultural nature of the local population. Tutors effectively challenge stereotypical assumptions. High quality information, advice and guidance has been successfully embedded into Redbridge Institute’s work with learners. How to get to the Gearies Centre:

By Bus:
Routes 66, 123, 128, 150, 167, 179, 296, 396, 462, 667, 679.
Any of the bus routes will take you near to Gants Hill roundabout.

By Train:
Take the central line to Gants Hill station and follow the signs towards Cranbrook Road (in the direction of Barkingside)

By Car:
From Gants Hill roundabout take the route going towards Barkingside then take a left into Waremead Road. Follow the sign posts to the Redbridge Institute (just past the Gants Hill Library).


Student Story

Anisha Agrawal came to Britain in 1997 from India and has settled in Ilford with her husband and two daughters aged six and three.

Although Anisha was highly qualified in her own country, with a Maths degree and a master's in Computer Applications, she was struggling to apply these skills in Britain. Anisha initially enrolled on a Flash MX web design class with the Institute but while she was here she decided to make use of our Learner Advice Centre. One of our Learning Advisers recommended that she enrol on an introductory teacher training course and very soon after completing this Anisha gained employment as a teacher.
