This programme aims to offer knowledge and expertise for academic research and teaching or for a career in the media and communications industries; the Race, Representation and Cultural Identity Group examines media representation of asylum seekers, asylum and gender, and the socio-cultural construction of non-citizens; it looks, in particular, at the representation of the asylum seeker and the refugee in government policy, law, social welfare, literature, film and media. Members of this group have also done extensive work on broader issues of racism and representation.
