Overview
Publishing Training Centre at Book House Overview Image

The Publishing Training Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing learning and training for publishers and other related  industries. We have been training publishing staff for more than 30 years and have represented the interests of the publishing industry on various industry bodies, including Skillset. We are now in an era defined by unprecedented digital challenges, and PTC is not afraid to lead the way in training with new digital courses launched regularly.

Although the PTC was originally set up as the training provider for the book publishing industry, today practically everyone does publishing of some or other description. Companies produce brochures, newsletters, online communications, reports, and so on. The PTC offers courses that cover all aspects of publishing.

Courses offered range from editorial skills (like proofreading and grammar), to web and digital skills (like XML and project management), from legal issues (like copyright and digital publishing law) to software training (like InDesign and Photoshop), and much, much more.

Our tutors are all specialists in the fields they teach and many currently work in the freelance roles, in these areas. They bring their real-world experience to the courses and are up-to-date with the latest advances in the field. Delegates are encouraged to participate fully in the discussions during courses and there are plenty of networking opportunities during breaks. Course groups are kept small so that students get personal attention from the tutor and to ensure that every person on a course can get the most out of the training.

Course Categories:

In addition to the large number of short courses that the PTC offers, there are also a number of distance learning and online learning programmes. The distance learning courses offer students the opportunity of learning skills, such as proofreadingcopy-editing, picture research, copywriting, and so on, that can lead to a freelance career in the future.

The online learning courses include Grammar at Work, a comprehensive grammar programme, and Understanding Book Publishing, which is aimed at those wishing to enter the book publishing industry.

We hope to welcome you to The Publishing Training Centre soon. Please don't hesitate to contact us on 020 8874 2718. The latest information on our current courses and new launches is available on www.train4publishing.co.uk.
