Course Description
Subject to validation. The MA Public Art programme is linked to areas such as sculpture, 3D work, community based art, environmental based art, urban re-generation projects, multi-media work including film, digital and moving image. The Postgraduate Certificate introduces the broad subject area of Public Art, and gives a basic Induction to access workshops and library facilities. A 'Statement of Intent' is required this is a broad agreement of what will be covered during the semester. This agreement will be negotiated with your personal supervisor and module manager of the Public Art Practice module. We also aim to introduce some projects currently being undertaken within the Borough by an external organisation, and involve you in developing a proposal for a public arts project. The Postgraduate Diploma examines the potential for innovation and diversity in Public Art, and will also aim to involve a 'live' public art project. The course enables engagement in developing a business plan for a project, learning how to work with different groups of people, and utilising a specific site for your proposal. The Masters programme involves a public arts project and is fully occupied with developing work for a specific place, to a high standard of completion. The project would be planned in negotiation with your personal supervisor, before the first week of the start of the module. Usually, working relationships with client groups such as Bolton Metro would have been developed in the previous semester through project work. This is carried through to this level of study.
